Acorn Health and Safety's Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid course equips you with essential first aid skills to confidently handle various emergency first aid situations involving infants and children. Through practical demonstrations and hands-on training, you'll learn to assess and respond to minor injuries and more serious incidents effectively.​

The course includes practical assessments that simulate real-life emergency scenarios, providing you with the experience needed to act swiftly and appropriately when faced with an emergency situation. By employing a range of methods, our experienced trainers ensure that you gain comprehensive knowledge and practical skills. Upon successful completion, you'll receive a paediatric first aid certificate, meeting the statutory requirements for those with responsibility for children in various settings. To maintain competency and stay updated with the latest practices, annual refresher training is recommended.

How do we approach Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid training?

Trainers employ a wide range of teaching techniques to meet the needs of individual delegates attending courses.  This course programme, accredited by Qualsafe Awards follows a set syllabus and contains the most up to date information available including:

  • Planning for, and dealing with, first aid emergencies involving babies and children
  • Unconsciousness and resuscitation of babies and children
  • Choking
  • Minor cuts, bites, stings, bleeding and shock
  • Anaphylactic shock
  • Broken bones and sprains
  • Head, neck and back injuries
  • Burns and scalds
  • Poisoning
  • Burns
  • Effects of extreme heat and cold including febrile convulsions
  • Contamination and injury to the eyes and foreign objects in the ears and nose
  • Other medical conditions including epilepsy, asthma, diabetes and meningitis

Owing to the practical nature of this course a basis level of general fitness is required.  Delegates must be physically able to carry out the procedures detailed in the course outline.  Should you have any questions relating to the accessibility of this course please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

The Statutory framework for the early years foundation stage states that at least one person who has a current paediatric first aid (PFA) certificate must be on the premises and available at all times when children are present, and must accompany children on outings. The certificate must be for a full course consistent with the criteria set out. Childminders, and any assistant who might be in sole charge of the children for any period of time, must hold a full current PFA certificate. PFA training must be renewed every three years and be relevant for workers caring for young children and where relevant, babies. Our Level 3 Paediatric First Aid training meets the PFA requirements.

This course is of 12 hours (two days) duration and includes the 1 day Emergency Paediatric First Aid Qualification.

IMPORTANT COURSE INFORMATION: Please ensure you bring photo ID with you and present to your trainer at the beginning of the course. This is a requirement of the course accreditation and certificates cannot be provided without it.

If English is your second language you are permitted to bring and use a hard copy bilingual dictionary during the course. Test papers are only available in English however, you can use your bilingual dictionary to help translate words. These can also be used in combination with a full verbally spoken multiple choice question assessment.
