A few months ago we received a call for something a little different from the University of Bristol’s finance team…..
They asked simply if we could provide some basic first aid training to 200 staff members attending an away day…
… “Yes”, we said (whilst a little unusual it’s not the first time we’ve delivered this type of session to a large audience) and we set about agreeing the content, organising the session, resourcing equipment and assigning six trainers with a spare ninety minutes in the middle of the day.
Last Thursday, 29th September, Dave, Megan, Nigel, Russel, Danny and James set off to the Mercure Central Hotel in Bristol and had the pleasure of introducing delegates to a variety of first aid skills including minor wounds, burns, shock, choking, unconsciousness, the primary survey, and severe bleeding!
Following an initial 30 minute presentation, delegates worked in four breakout groups where they had the opportunity to get hands on with each other, a large pile of bandages, resuscitation manikins and a choking vest before a final Q&A session.

Acorn’s Director Danny Street praised the efforts of the trainers saying, “Thank you to everyone involved, a great training session, a little different but it’s what we do best!’’
We have since received the following feedback from the course booker:
“Can I just say that the trainers were excellent, and many of the delegates said that the training was the best part of the day!”
