What is the Role of a Fire Marshal or Fire Warden?
Fire marshals are primarily responsible for the identification of potential fire risks and hazards and ensuring that the appropriate measures are put into place to mitigate and protect against the risks. Usually, the ‘Responsible Person’ assigns the role of the fire marshal and it’s, therefore, the job of the fire marshal to ensure that issues are flagged to the business owner/owner of the premises. They are also in charge of ensuring that individuals leave the premises quickly and safely during an evacuation.
A fire warden is an individual that is responsible of ensuring that nobody is left inside of the building when an evacuation occurs. This can be in the form of a headcount when the evacuation occurs and should be carried out in accordance with the visitor’s book. They also should take on the responsibility of fire drills and ensure that individuals understand the fire evacuation policy.
