The Restart a Heart campaign (RSAH) is an annual initiative on the 16th October every year led by the Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK) in partnership with The British Heart Foundation (BHF) and various Ambulance services. It raises awareness about cardiac arrest and helps people to learn CPR, giving them life saving skills and the confidence to use them.
On this day, 16th October 2024, we will be training approx 60 delegates over x5 pre booked training courses including Emergency First Aid, Adult Basic Life Support and First Aid at Work.
We provide a comprehensive range of first aid training and basic life support (BLS) courses that include CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and the safe use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator). Owing to the practical nature of the courses, a basic level of general fitness is required. Delegates must be physically able to carry out the procedures detailed in the relevant course outline.
The RSAH campaign aims to improve the low numbers of people surviving out-of-hospital cardiac arrests. Approximately 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests happen every year in the UK. Survival rates from out of hospital cardiac arrest remain very low in the UK, and sadly less than one in ten people survive. If CPR was more widely taught, many more lives could be saved each year.
Most people tend to learn First Aid when they are requested to do so by their employers, however, approximately 80% of cardiac arrests happen in the home. Learning CPR guarantees that you have the skills to help those around you should the need arise.
A cardiac arrest occurs when the heart stops pumping blood around the body and causes a person to collapse and stop breathing normally. Bystander CPR provided immediately after sudden cardiac arrest can double or even triple a victim’s chance of survival, yet only 32% of cardiac arrest victims get CPR from a bystander.
By learning and performing CPR, you could be the difference between life and death for a loved one at home, a colleague at work, or a stranger in the street. Sadly, without intervention it’s unlikely a person in cardiac arrest will survive.
Whether you’ve learnt CPR previously and are looking for a refresher course, or have never had any CPR training, you have the opportunity to learn CPR and gain the skills and confidence to help if someone collapses and stops breathing normally. It is important to quickly call 999, perform hands-only CPR and use a defibrillator to give everyone the best chance of surviving.
The ability to save a life can empower employees in and outside the workplace. We frequently have people attending first aid renewal courses saying they have used the skills learnt more outside of work than at work. Consequently, these skills are highly beneficial to both organisations and individuals!
First aid skills are critical for every business, so it’s necessary to find a reputable first aid training provider. Earlier this year, HSE (Health and Safety Executive) updated The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 which now emphasises on selecting accredited and well-regulated training programs (such as ours) which signifies quality assurance in ensuring effective first aid training. It has streamlined the selection process and the quality assurance focus, along with the suitability of trainers and blended learning, which aims to make training compliance simpler for employers by setting very clear standards for delivery and course content. The employers must be confident in the training provider’s ability to deliver high quality training with appropriate content that meets legal guidelines, use suitable qualified trainers and assessors, and have relevant and robust quality assurance systems in place.
