Manual handling loadsWhen you hear “manual handling” do you instantly picture warehouse workers or delivery drivers carrying big boxes? Most people assume that manual handling is only for large delivery companies but in reality, manual handling affects every workplace in some shape or form; lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or moving. Having the right knowledge can help prevent injury.

Office workers might carry reams of paper (which are quite heavy!) or general stationery. Maybe move their desks around.

Care workers with patients so known as the moving and handling of people. Caring can be a hugely rewarding experience but carers often find it challenging to take care of their own physical wellbeing whilst caring.

A very common lifting mistake is not assessing the load before attempting to lift. Injuries can happen because someone picks something up without considering its weight, shape, or stability.

Your posture matters too. Using your muscles and strength correctly and where you hold the load can make all the difference and help prevent injury.

We offer multiple Manual Handling training courses here at Acorn that can help keep your team safe and reduce the risk of injuries. We know just how technical and energy consuming it can be to help move/support someone properly. Musculoskeletal injury continues to account for significant sickness absence amongst the UK workforce.
